Picture This! 2024 Competition

These Terms and Conditions (the “T&Cs”) apply to the competition entitled ‘Picture This! 2024’ in the UK (the “UK Competition”) only. Any valid entrant who completes the entry form below (the “Entry Form”) and submits it before midnight on 31.05.2024 (the “Closing Date”) will be entered into the UK Competition. Further details enclosed herein.

  1. The UK Competition is hosted by Lemniscaat, a company incorporated in The Netherlands under the registered number 24138137 and having its registered office at Vijverlaan 48, 3062 HL Rotterdam (“the Promoter”). The UK Competition is co-promoted by Walker Books Ltd., a company incorporated in England under registered number 1378601 and having its registered office at 87 Vauxhall Walk, London, SE11 5JH (the “UK Publisher”). For the avoidance of doubt the UK Competition is not open to the employees of the Promoter or the UK Publisher, their families and anyone else professionally connected to the UK Competition.
  2. No purchase is necessary.
  3. The entrant is the individual completing the Entry Form below T&Cs (the “Entrant”).
  4. Entrants must be aged 18 or over and must be a resident of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland at the time of entry.
  5. Only one entry per Entrant may be made and entries made after the Closing Date will not be considered.
  6. Entries must be original and must not have been published before.
  7. Entrants must not have published a picture book with a trade publisher before. For the avoidance of doubt, entrants may enter if have previously published educational books or work of any other genre including but not limited to adult fiction, book covers or excerpt in a poetry anthology.
  8. Entrants must submit using the Entry Form below three (3) original illustrations and a short synopsis of no more than 250 words to be a valid entry. The synopsis must be uploaded in PDF format to be valid.
  9. Entries must meet the following conditions to be considered a valid entry:
    1. The maximum size of the images must be A3 and the true size must be noted in the accompanying text which must be in English.
    2. The resolution of the images must be at least 150 dpi.
    3. The maximum size of separate files must be 600 KB.
    4. The files must be named as one of the following: “firstname_lastname_1” “firstname_lastname_2” “firstname_lastname_3” “firstname_lastname_txt” Example: “John_Johnson_1.jpg”
  10. All intellectual property rights are retained.
  11. There will be three (3) winners (the “Winners”) who will each be entitled to a prize. The Winners will have their illustrations published by the Promoter in an international catalogue presented to several leading picture book houses at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2025 and will feature in the Picture This! exhibition in KUNZT. The UK Publisher will also provide the Winners with a tour of the Walker Books offices in London, including a lunch and a mentoring session with the Publishing Director, Art Director and a professional illustrator over the course of one day (the “Prize”).
  12. The Promoter and the UK Publisher reserves the right to amend the specification of the Prize or offer an alternative Prize of equivalent status in the event that the Prize offered is No cash alternative will be offered. The Prize is non-transferable.
  13. Unsuccessful Entrants will not be contacted and the decision of the UK Publisher on all matters is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
  14. The Promoter and UK Publisher do not accept responsibility for competition entries that are lost or damaged regardless of cause including but not limited to as a result of any equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind.
  15. The three (3) successful Entrants will be selected by a panel of competent judges employed by the UK The successful Entrant will be judged solely on their illustrations.
  16. The three (3) Winners will be notified by email and must respond and claim their Prize by midnight within seven days of the date of contact otherwise are deemed to have forfeited their prize.
  17. The results of the UK Competition will be published on the Picture This! website and on the UK Publisher’s social channels twelve (12) weeks after the close of the UK Competition in July 2024.
  18. Where the successful Entrant does not meet all of the entry conditions or refuses the Prize, another Entrant will be selected by the same panel of competent judges unless this is impracticable at the time.
  19. Practical considerations involving the Prize will be communicated to the Winners following the close of the UK Competition.
  20. The Promoter and UK Publisher may amend or withdraw the UK Competition and/or these T&Cs at any time due to changes in relevant law or due to unforeseen circumstances beyond its reasonable control.
  21. Entry to the UK Competition is conditional upon acceptance of these T&Cs which are governed by the laws of England and Wales and under the jurisdiction of the English and Welsh courts.
  22. By entering the UK Competition and providing the completed Entry Form below you are deemed to have read and accepted these T&Cs.
  23. The Promoter will make the Winners’ first names and country of residence available on request within twelve (12) weeks of the Closing Date. Any requests must be made to the following email address to picturethis@lemniscaat.nl within twelve (12) weeks of the UK Competition Closing Date.
  24. All personal details submitted with each Entry Form will be held in accordance with the Promoter’s Privacy Policy (which can be found here: https://wwpbic.com/privacy-policy) and the UK Publisher’s Privacy Policy (which can be found here: https://www.walker.co.uk/about-walker/privacy-policy.aspx) and all applicable laws relating to the protection of Personal Data or privacy which have effect in the United Kingdom from time to time, including (but not limited to) the Data Protection Act 1998 and the General Data Protection Regulations.
  25. By submitting an Entry Form, an Entrant is providing their personal data to the Promoter as “data controller”. The Promoter will share with the UK Publisher any data submitted by Entrants as is necessary only for the purposes of administering this Prize unless otherwise agreed. Such data will not be shared with any other party except to the extent necessary to provide the Prize. All data will be deleted sixteen (16) weeks after the Closing Date.
  26. Any requests for information or any complaint made in connection to an Entrant’s rights under the applicable laws relating to the protection of Personal Data in relation to the UK Competition must be made to picturethis@lemniscaat.nl.
